highly Integrated cacao sourcing beans company

COSTA RICA

Casa Franceschi is a cacao trading family business (6th generation), established as a vehicle in Costa Rica from Grupo San Jose, which holds other companies such as Franceschi Chocolate. They started since 1830 as the main specialty cacao producer and exporter from Venezuela to Europe, and it has expanded to be a B Corp that commercializes fine quality cacao beans from Ecuador, Venezuela, and Peru to Asia (55%), Europe (30%) and USA (15%). The company is well positioned and sells to important buyers, who recognize their traceability and cocoa sensory profiles.

Impact Thesis :

Casa Franceschi links small scale producers from the most economically and socially vulnerable regions of Ecuador, Venezuela, and Perú to the export markets. Most of its supply comes from more than 3,330 small independent famers in vulnerable situations, who get access to the premium market thanks to Casa Franceschi’ support. These farmers get technical assistance, laboratory tests of their samples, and educational activities to enhance the development of the community. They are also investing in social programs and paying them a higher price than the market, which has impacted more than 11,000 people from the rural area in those three countries.

The company has post-harvest facilities offering multiple varieties of cacao from diverse origins, including patented criollo varieties from Venezuela, of which they hold a legacy of research and knowledge. The company does not use GMO seeds, instead, they rescued the ancestral genetics and do not use any pesticide or chemicals.
