Cafinter is a family company specialized in the process and export of organic Cardamom and other spices such as allspice, annatto, and maya nuts (ramon). The company was founded in 1990 by Roberto Morales, an expert in organic cardamom is currently managing the company together with his two sons. They are based in Cobán where there are known as pioneer and major buyer of organic cardamom in the communities in the region. They have become one of the major organic cardamom exporters worldwide to a few important clients such as Starbucks, Worlee or McCormik.
Impact Thesis :
For 2021-2022 campaign, Cafinter worked with 331 small-scale producers, from 5 different communities located in the municipality of Coban, in Alto Verapaz department in Guatemala, most of them (67%) are Mayan language native speakers, who in most cases need a translator to communicate with their business partners. For that purpose, Cafinter has destined specific staff to assist them and improve their relations.
On the other hand, Cafinter bought 65% of the total volume of cardamom produced by the farmers follow their payment procedure that ensures market stability for the producers : they received an advance of the harvest, and the difference is paid with the delivery of the product.
